The two men behind Sunday's extravaganza were the Oasis' marketing co-ordinator Mr. Paul Sofianos, and musician Mr. Jon Dobson.

They launched the "Rhythm of Life Foundation Hurricane Andrew Relief Benefit'' after being touched by the plight of the storm's victims.

An original fund-raising target of $2,500 was easily surpassed -- and now the pair hope to continue their efforts.

"We have exceeded our goal, which is great,'' said Mr. Dobson, who performed with his group, The Happy Penguinz.

Mr. Sofianos said the aims were two-fold: to raise money for a good cause; and to demonstrate how young musicians in Bermuda could pull together for the community.

The concert, which ran from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m, featured performances by several bands. Among them were The Sharks, which reformed after splitting up around six years ago.

Two Canadian comedians, and magician, Mr. Harry Maurer, also performed.

The crowd-pleasing grand finale was a huge jamming session featuring all the groups.

"We were absolutely delighted by the way things went, and would like to thank everybody who came,'' said Mr. Sofianos.

He said the money raised, topped up to $4,000 from donations, would be handed to Bermuda Red Cross and passed on to hurricane victims.

The pair's telephone hotline for donations is 293-1134.
