Bermuda College tutors anticipated around ten students would apply for the new law course, being run in conjunction with the University of Kent, and were surprised when double that number enrolled.

And now College officials are keen to build on the success and put on an associate law degree for students straight from school.

On October 18, 19 mature students will begin the year-long undergraduate course which, providing they pass exams, will allow them to transfer to a UK university for the remainder of the three-year degree.

Vice-president of academic and student affairs Donald Peters and College president George Cook travelled to Kent to sign the validation agreement.

Yesterday, Dr. Peters said the course had been validated by the UK Law Society, giving the course the green light.

Using technology called Lawlink, lectures are downloaded into Bermuda College computers and used just days after first-year students in Kent receive them.

Four instructors will help the class through the course, and even the examinations will be held on the same day as England.

After passing their exams, students can then apply to join the second year of a corresponding LLB law degree anywhere in the UK.
