Pacers in mood for medals at East Coast Invitational

Three athletes struck gold, six, including four in the relay team, won silver and another three picked up bronze medals in what proved to be a hugely successful trip for the Pacers, led by coach Cal Simons.

Competing against some 2,800 athletes from all corners of the US, the young Bermuda athletes also recorded a number of fourth, fifth and sixth place finishes in event finals.

Jarita Dill ran the 15-16 girls 800 metres in a personal best of two minutes, 18.02 seconds to earn a gold medal. And Nasir Wade also won gold in the 11-12 boys 400 metres, running an impressive 58 seconds. He later competed in the long jump, finishing fifth with a leap of 15 feet, 21 inches.

Jelani Scott completed Bermuda's hat-trick of golds when he won the 13-14 long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 41 inches. Scott also placed fourth in the 800 metres in 2:04.97.

Delmani Scott and Shimika Telford collected silver medals in the boys and girls 11-12 high jump, clearing four feet, eight inches and four feet, two inches respectively.

Danielle Watson also jumped her way to a silver in the girls 9-10 long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 13 inches.

And the 4x400 metre relay team of Nasir Wade, Nadir Wade, Richard Walcot and Delmani Scott won silver, setting a personal best time of 4:05.

Bronze went to Tamara Olden in the Under-8 100 metres, clocking 15.46; Gina Cann in the 15-16 100 metres with a time of 12.45; and Calvert Lee in the 15-16 5,000 metres with a PB of 16:51.08.

Other notable performances came from Shane Morrissey, fifth in the 9-10 boys 800 metres (2:29.5, PB); Nadir Wade, sixth in the 11-12 long jump (15 feet, 21 inches) and sixth in the 200 metres (27.43); and Antonio Lowe, sixth in the 9-10 long jump (12 feet, 10 inches).
