bronze -- while competing at the Pan American International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do Federation (IOGKF) Championships, held in conjunction with the Miyagi Martial Arts Festival in Houston, Texas.

In her first competitive international event, Clarke placed second in kumite (sparring) and followed with a third place finish in kata (forms).

Clarke was part of the five strong contingent which travelled to the United States for a festival that attracted representatives from several countries, including Japan, Germany, Russia, South Africa, Denmark, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Peru as well as various parts of the host nation.

Other members were Mariae Dixon, Damon Mussenden, Rosemarie DeShields and instructor Sensei Bobby Smith.

Smith was successful in obtaining his IOGKF referee's licence, presented by Master Morio Higaonna.
