Lightbourne on the mark
Saturday's 3-2 home win against third-placed Luton to become joint second highest scorer in his division.
The double strike, combined with the goal he scored in the 2-1 midweek lost to Bury, lifted Lightbourne to 24 for the season, the target he and another Bermudian Shawn Goater reached last season. Goater, whose Bristol City team did not play on Saturday, remains on 21 but with one extra game left tonight.
With four games still remaining for Walsall, Lightbourne is set to pass the 25-goal target he set himself at the start of the season. He could even get close to the 27 goals he netted in the Third Division two seasons ago when he helped Walsall win promotion. "This was one of the best games I've played in since I've been at Walsall,'' said Lightbourne. "I'm sure all the spectators got their money's worth.'' Lightbourne gave Walsall a 1-0 lead at the break with a first half header then made it 2-2 with a low shot across goal after outpacing a defender. He also laid on the winner for John Hodge 13 minutes from the end with his cross from the left flank. The win put Walsall in seventh spot, just two points and one place outside the play-off zone.
