Local culture guru gives Munich workshop
Vice president of Training and Product Development for Bermuda Cultural Services, Maria Martin Thacker, presented a pre-conference master workshop at the 1996 Congress of The Society of Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) in Munich, Germany.
Bermuda Cultural Services teaches diversity training in the workplace from a global perspective and offers consultation on the Bermudian community to non-Bermudians coming to the Island.
The workshop which was held from May 29 to June 2, was attended by conference members from 14 countries.
Dr. Martin Paige, director of Comparative and International Development Programme at the University of Minnesota joined Ms Thacker in presenting the one-day event called "Theory and Practice.'' SIETAR, the Washington DC based international professional organisation for diversity/intercultural practitioners, holds its annual Congress in a different country each year.
At this year's convention, 200 sessions with 350 presenters highlighted research results, training approaches and management practices within the context of living and working in multicultural societies.
*** Members of the public are being offered a free introductory lecture on effective stress management and relaxation.
The lecture is being conducted by certified lecturer Patricia Harvey-Burch and will take place on Monday, July 15 from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. at the second floor of the Nurses' Residence, Berry Hill Road, Paget.
Mrs. Harvey-Burch will also be holding a seminar titled "The Silva Method'' on July 20 and 21 from 8.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. in the conference room of the King Edward Memorial Hospital.
Attendees will learn about things like effective stress management and deep relaxation, successful goal-setting and problem-solving, how to eliminate dependencies and enhance self-image, etc.
The last Workshop on Successful Decision Making and Goal Setting will be held on Wednesday July 24 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. also on the second floor of the Nurses Residence.
