Flatts school row could be solved
teachers at an unlicensed school.
The Christian Deliverance Academy has been operating for more than four years in the basement of Evangel Tabernacle in Flatts, without an Education Department licence.
Yesterday in Magistrates Court, principal the Rev. Dr. Muriel Wade Smith and pastor the Rev. Stanley Lee appeared before Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis and had their case adjourned until November 5.
Crown counsel Mr. Stephen Harrison told the court: "An application is pending to a Government department which may obviate the neccessity of proceedings.'' Defence lawyer Mr. Tim Marshall, for the church, said: "We're doing our best to resolve it in a way that's satisfactory to the Government and the church.'' The church has applied for a school registration licence and appealed against a Development Application Board ruling that denied planning permission for the school.
Environment Minister the Hon. Ann Cartwright DeCouto is considering the appeal.
Officials are believed to be planning similar court action against the Clara Mohammed elementary school in Pembroke.
