Residents upset by latest concert plan
come to a head this Saturday.
A host of Jamaican reggae artists are set to appear at Frog Lane Field, the home of Devonshire Colts football team.
Although the club has stated that it has the support of local residents, some have phoned The Royal Gazette to complain about the concert.
They also claim to have sent a letter to the Commissioner of Police Mr.
Lennett (Lennie) Edwards.
The complainants have already been successful this year in having a concert by Mad Cobra moved to Number One Shed in Hamilton.
But a number of "quieter'' events, including Miss Teen Bermuda, have taken place over the past few weeks.
This Saturday, Jamaican reggae stars will mix with local bands in "Reggae in Paradise'', presented by Dub City Promotions and Dynasty Enterprise.
With tickets costing between $40 and $50, the show features Garnet Silk, Beres Hammond, Major Mackerel, Angie Angel, Queen Paula and Ninjaford.
Supporting bands include Ryddim Kings and Jah Postles.
Local artists include Don Cornelious, Carol Ann Williams and Troyan as well as the Justice Band.
Leader of the protest group, Mr. John Simmons said: "We believe this type of concert causing this type of noise is against the law.
"We have written to the Commissioner to ask him to enforce the law and stop this concert.
"There have been a couple of events under the tent but this concert is going to mean loud music which will disturb people living close by.' Mr. Simmons said that the situation would be made worse by the fact that neighbouring Devonshire Rec. football club was holding its regular bingo night on Saturday.
He said: "You go down and look at the field and tell me how 1,000 cars can be parked there, because that is what is needed.
"It is going to cause disruption for people living in the area when it could easily be taken to a site which is not close to a residential area.'' Colts officials have previously stated that they carried out a survey of local residents and found overwhelming support for the concerts.
They say they have no idea who Mr.
Simmons is and whether he is a local resident.
A Police spokesman said that the Commissioner had not received any communication from the residents around Frog Lane.
He said that any complaints received by the Police would be "dealt with accordingly''.
