Vasco, Dandy Town try again
their home fixture against Dandy Town at Somerset Cricket Club in a key First Division match.
Light problems at PHC Stadium have forced two attempts to play the match to be aborted, with Town actually leading in the first before it was stopped by referee Gary Cooke.
Both teams are trying to close the gap on leaders Devonshire Colts.
Vasco's hopes of retaining the title they won a year ago could hinge on this match as they need to win to close the gap on Colts to three points with four games remaining.
The ideal situation for Colts, as they chase a first title since 1973, would be a draw, which would leave them with a five-point lead. Vasco boosted their title hopes with a 6-0 thrashing of St. George's, sending the latter to the Second Division next season, while Town had to come from behind to draw with Southampton Rangers 1-1.
Colts' final four matches are against St. David's on Friday night, North Village, St. George's and Devonshire Cougars while Vasco close out their league campaign this month against Southampton Rangers, Cougars, PHC and Boulevard.
Town have to play three of the same teams as Colts -- St. George's, North Village and St. David's, as well as PHC. But while they can be reasonably happy with their remaining fixtures, both they and Vasco know it will come down to someone else giving them a hand as none of them play Colts.
"Without a doubt, Colts are smiling,'' said Town coach Mark Trott yesterday.
"This match is critical especially since we didn't get maximum points against Rangers. Looking at the other teams' schedules, one of the big advantages is that Colts have the top teams out of their way.
"I would think they would be looking at the schedule and their coaching staff would be smiling a bit.'' Game time is 9 p.m. Tonight's 7 p.m. match sees PHC Teasers taking on Dandy Stars in the semi-finals of the Women's FA Cup. The winners will meet Wolves Girls in the final next month.
