Martial arts master in Bermuda seminar

Martial arts students and instructors from various disciplines had a chance to sit at the feet of legendary Kung-Fu expert William Cheung recently.

Mr. Cheung, credited with introducing Bruce Lee to Wing Chun Kung-Fu, visited the Island thanks to Sifu Delroi Flood from the Bermuda Wing Chun Kung-Fu Academy and conducted a four-hour seminar on the art.

Mr. Cheung opened the seminar with an overview of traditional Wing Chung concepts and theories combined with pressure point and Dim Mak techniques.

The second part of the seminar was reserved for Mr. Cheung's chi meditation and meridian therapy.

Mr. Flood explained that the meditations are part of a centuries-old practice performed by people regardless of race, age, or religion.

"Our bodies are a combination of Yin and Yang like a battery. First, Grandmaster Cheung shows you how the internal energy works,'' said Mr. Flood.

"Then he progresses to show various drills and exercises to help improve stress control by maintaining internal harmony, slow the aging process, and to learn self-healing for weight control, pain control and general health,'' he added.

"I think everyone left with a good understanding of how our style works and what makes it one of the most popular martial arts in the world.'' Mr. Cheung also held a special children's class and conducted an examination of Mr. Flood's skills during the course of his visit.

According to Mr. Flood, Mr. Cheung started his training at the age of ten under the late Grandmaster Yip Man from whom he later inherited the complete system of traditional Wing Chun.
