As a result of "numerous'' thefts. Gosling Brothers management had a security camera installed last December, prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said.

Employees -- including the store's assistant manager -- were seen taking money from the till and liquor off the shelves, he said.

Police were called and four arrests were made.

Leonard Moniz, 24, of St. David's, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $500 worth of goods between last June and this May while employed as assistant manager.

The goods included six bottles of champagne and some wine coolers.

Acting Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons, noting the champagne was Dom Perignon, told Moniz he seemed to have good taste in wine.

As Moniz had not been before the court before, Ms Simmons ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned sentencing for two weeks.

Wendy Augustus, 34, of Pembroke, admitted stealing and pocketing $170 cash from the till between May 1 and 8 while working at the store.

Sgt. Osborne said Augustus had a past conviction for wilful damage but had paid back all the money she stole and fined her $800.

Flora Washington, 24, of St. George's, who also had not been before the court before, admitted stealing about $300 and a bottle of black rum between December 1 and May 13 while employed at the store.

And Bruce Young, 31, of Somerset pleaded guilty to stealing $30 cash between last December and this May while working as a salesman.

Social inquiry reports were ordered for Washington and Young.
