BCS to tap Internet market

Machines, announced last week that it would become the third company to enter the commercial and residential Internet market in Bermuda.

BCS will become one of 2,000 worldwide points of presence on the AT&T Global Dialler network for Internet access. The connection will allow BCS's customers to dial into the AT&T network while abroad, a practice known as "roaming''.

AT&T Internet customers visiting Bermuda will also get seamless local Internet access.

"The equipment is here,'' said BCS chief financial officer Wyatt Sellyeh.

"We're just waiting for AT&T to activate it and integrate it into its global network.'' The venture is part of BCS's plan to pursue the Internet services market through its subsidiary, Transact-e-Biz.com. The company has already invested $465,000 in equipment and expects to spend a further $1 million as it focuses less on computer sales, once its mainstay.

BCS has had a class A telecommunications license for the past six years.

Access costs, though not yet finalised, are expected to be in line with those of Logic and North Rock, the only two full-service ISPs on the Island.
