Party Leader and Premier the Hon. John Swan congratulating them for registering to vote.

The letter was sent last week to more than 4,000 registered voters between the ages of 17 and 24.

"You have shown a strong commitment to Bermuda by ensuring your name was on this year's voter's register,'' says the letter, signed John Swan.

"Your participation moves us all forward in our search for the new ideas and fresh approaches needed for a successful future.

"We are very proud that the United Bermuda Party was instrumental in expanding direct involvement in the democratic process by lowering the legal voting age from 21 to 18.'' The letter, which one UBP official described as a "handshake by mail'', says the Party has had a long-standing commitment to young people.

"We recognise that sound educational opportunities and the success of our youth are vital to Bermuda's future.'' It also contains a brief questionaire that seeks the views of young voters on any current issues. Sir John mentions education, employment and substance abuse as possible examples.

"We want to know what you think about the issues and welcome your suggestions for dealing with the challenges that face all of us,'' Sir John says in conclusion.

"I look forward to hearing from you. With your help, we can make a difference for Bermuda now and in the future.'' The questionaire lists the following questions: What are the primary issues facing younger Bermudians today? What are the primary issues facing Bermuda today? What are your greatest concerns for the future? Identify one area you think Government should be doing more to help young people? Please explain.

Are you a member of the United Bermuda Party? If no, would you like to join?
