Industrial dispute hampers dock work

Also in this week were three cruise liners and one irregular visitor, the MV Trones , which arrived in St. George's on Sunday from Aulds Cove, Nova Scotia.

It discharged a load of gravel before departing on Tuesday.

The Somers Isles and the Oleander both arrived on Sunday from their respective ports in Florida and New Jersey and departed on Tuesday.

The Somers Isles off loaded 85 containers, including nine which were refrigerated, along with a truck, a boat, 56 bundles of lumber and 21 bundles of steel on Monday.

Meyer Agencies spokesman Stephen Paynter said: "Due to the dock dispute she was unable to discharge on Sunday.'' The Oleander off loaded 101 containers, 32 refers, ten trailers of steel and a large septic tank on Monday as well.

Meanwhile the Bermuda Islander arrived on Monday morning and suffered delays while waiting for its load of 88 containers, including 13 refers, to be discharged. She was set to depart yesterday.

Elsewhere the Zenith arrived with 1,360 passengers from New York on Monday and berthed in Hamilton. It was due to shift to St. George's yesterday and depart later today.

The Song of America and Royal Majesty both arrived on Tuesday in St. George's with 1,426 and 1,098 passengers respectively and are due to depart tomorrow.

The Song of America was scheduled to replace the Zenith in Hamilton yesterday.
