Bermuda to join CAA

American countries in forming a new cricket body to promote the game, according to a report coming out of Calcutta, India yesterday.

The Cricket Association of America, which will begin operating in March, will include the United States, Canada, Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and the West Indies among its members, Patrick Rousseau, chairman of the West Indies Cricket Board, was reported as saying.

Rousseau said the CAA will work closely with various cricket organisations in Asia and Africa to improve the game.

Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president, El James, when questioned specifically about Bermuda's involvement, offered little insight on the matter, merely saying: "It would be premature for me to comment at this time.'' However, an earlier interview with the head of the local cricket body revealed Bermuda as having more than passive involvement.

"We're getting busy again, especially with what we have accomplished in being recognised as a region, and now having regional tournaments,'' said James.

"Now what we have to do as a next step, even though we are recognised as a region, is have our own regional executive or organising committee, and that I think will be done this year.''
