Warships due in for Tiger cruise
vessels scheduled to be in the Island's waters tomorrow.
The Perry Class frigates USS Halyburton and USS Nicholas will collect 55 Tiger cruisers before returning to an undisclosed port on the East Coast of the US, said John S. Darrell spokesman Saleem Talbot yesterday.
The Halyburton will berth in Dockyard while the Nicholas remains offshore.
Tiger cruisers are friends and family of US Navy personnel who join up with their kin and colleagues on board ship for a sampling of Navy life.
Meanwhile Bermuda's regular cruise ship callers made their scheduled visits this week and brought over 6,000 passengers to the Island.
Meyer Agencies spokesman Stephen Paynter reported that the Zenith arrived in Hamilton on Monday with 1,393 passengers.
Yesterday's poor weather prevented her from shifting to St. George's as scheduled and Mr. Paynter said the captain was waiting to see if conditions improved before attempting to navigate Town Cut.
The Dreamward arrived Monday and went to Penno's Wharf with 1,269 passengers, continued Mr. Paynter.
It shifted to Hamilton on Tuesday and both vessels are set to depart tomorrow afternoon.
Elsewhere the Meridian arrived on Tuesday from Philadelphia and berthed at King's Wharf with 1,131 passengers. It will sail tomorrow afternoon along with the Royal Majesty .
Mr. Talbot said this ship arrived from Boston on Tuesday with 1,116 passengers on board.
And the Song of America , he continued, arrived in St. George's on Tuesday also.
It was carrying 1,452 passengers and was expected to switch to Hamilton yesterday afternoon before departing tomorrow.
In other shipping news, Container Ship Management spokeswoman Glynnis Dickinson said the Oleander arrived on Sunday with 27 refrigerated containers and 108 dry containers.
It also off-loaded a boat and seven trailers of building materials and structural steel before leaving on Tuesday.
Mr. Paynter said the Somers Isle arrived on Sunday from Florida with 105 containers including seven refers.
It also had some break-bulk cargo consisting of a boat, a forklift, five bundles of lumber and 33 bundles of structural steel and pipe which it off loaded.
The Somers Isle departed on Sunday evening and the Bermuda Islander arrived the following morning with 104 containers including 11 refers. It departed on Tuesday morning.
A Maltese motor tanker, the Amyndas , arrived in local waters on Monday night to drop off a sick crewman.
The 62,000-ton tanker, which was on its way to the Canary Islands from New York, diverted to Bermuda to drop off its ailing chief engineer who had been experiencing numbness on the left side of his body.
A Meyer Agencies spokesman said it was believed that the man -- who was hospitalised -- had experienced a stroke.
Meanwhile the ship left straight away and continued on her voyage.
