Jamaican Consul General set to pay weekend visit
Dr. Basil K. Bryan, who was appointed to the post last April after the death of the late Kay Baxter-Collins, will make several appearances and courtesy calls during his visit.
Accompanied by his wife, Jean, and Vice Consul Lincoln Downer, Dr. Bryan will speak at a press conference at the Princess Hotel on Monday morning and make himself available to Jamaican residents and others during a familiarisation meeting on Tuesday at the Bermuda Industrial Union's Dr. E.F. Gordon Hall.
Prior to assuming his present position, Dr. Bryan served as Deputy Chief of Mission (Deputy Ambassador) in the Jamaican Embassy in Washington D.C.
A community-oriented person, Dr. Bryan was the Embassy's liaison with the Jamaican community throughout the US. He also had responsibility for education and community relations while at the Embassy.
His achievements have brought him numerous accolades and awards. These include the National Association of Jamaican and Supportive Organisations (NAJASO) Award for outstanding service to the Jamaican community in the US; the Jamaican Progressive League (New York) Award for outstanding community service; the African Studies and Research Programme Award and the Caribbean Students of Howard University Award for outstanding service.
Honorary Consul General for Jamaica in Bermuda, Legislative Affairs Minister Lois Browne Evans said she looked forward to the Jamaican Consul General's visit. She added: "He will also be making courtesy calls to the Governor, Premier, and Opposition Leader.''
