Juniors make their mark overseas

International Junior Golf Championships in Bermuda, placed a respectable 22nd in a field of 75 this week in an American Junior Golf Association tournament in Afton, Oklahoma.

Spurling carded an 80 on the first day followed by a 78 and 76.

Another local golfer, Michael Sims, is also currently abroad, participating in an AJGA tournament in Alabama. He fired a first day score of 75 to make the cut for the last two days.

There were 190 youngsters in the tournament with only 64 surviving the cut.

Sims plays his final round today.

Sims and Spurling's next destination is San Diego where they will meet up with two other local golfers, Craig Brown and David James Jr., for the Junior Worlds which gets underway on Monday.

All four are playing in the 15-17 age group.
