Boulevard push Hornets towards 'trap door'
Dandy Town 1 Boulevard 3
Boulevard all but booked their place in the Premier Division for next season courtesy of a stylish victory over strugglers Dandy Town at St. John's Field yesterday.
Three goals, including a penalty by Melchisedel Gibbons and strikes from skipper Angelo Simmons and Raymond Burgess, secured all three points for Blazers after coming from behind from Antwan Russell's early goal for Town.
Boulevard coach John Rebello declared himself pleased with the result which inched his side closer to safety on 15 points with three games to play against Devonshire Cougars, Devonshire Colts and Ireland Rangers, and pushed the Hornets closer to the trap door.
"It was good to see what we did in training worked - they came out and executed it well," he said.
"The early goal kind of woke us up and the guys just played well today - they did not hold onto the ball too long and passed it early.
"You are never safe in football, but this takes a lot of pressure off us and now we can focus on the FA Cup match against St. George's."
A mistake in the visitors' defence gifted the Hornets the lead with barely five minutes on the clock when keeper Shejuan Swan fumbled a back header from Jehmarley Samuels and the ball fell to Russell, who was on hand to turn it in.
But, Boulevard hit back and found themselves on level terms moments later as Town captain Ernest Signor felled Simmons inside the box and Gibbons stepped up to despatch the resultant spot-kick, sending the hosts' number one Mikkail Crockwell the wrong way.
They were soon ahead through Simmons himself, who finished off a fine free-flowing move involving Gibbons and Takeyhi Walker and doubled their advantage shortly after the half-time whistle with Raymond Burgess tucking away the loose ball after Walker had smashed a header against the upright from Gibbons' corner.
There was still enough time for Blazers' substitute Chat Simmons to hit the woodwork, before Russell blazed his penalty high and wide of the target after being hauled down by Philip Bradshaw in the area.
