No respite for Rangers
Division soccer action continues. But the contest shouldn't be as close as it sounds as the depth of the division separates leaders Vasco from bottom team Southampton. One team has four wins from four outings, the other four successive losses.
The clash at Southampton Oval is just as important for the home team as it is for Vasco who should find themselves temporarily back in second place in the standings following tonight's clash at BAA Field between Devonshire Colts and Boulevard.
Colts, the defending league champions, have been in better form in the league than they were in the Martonmere Cup when they failed to reach the semi-finals. In the league they have won three of their four matches and have 10 points which puts them two points behind the leaders.
Boulevard lifted themselves into third place with another come-from-behind win last weekend, beating Southampton Rangers 4-3 after trailing at the half to a Janeiro Tucker goal.
Certainly Colts will find the Martonmere Cup finalists tough opponents, but if the defensive records of the teams is any indication, then Colts should have the edge.
Four teams in the lower region of the standings will be hoping to kick-start their season. Otherwise they could find themselves facing the threat of relegation in the new year.
Rangers are still without a point at the bottom and Devonshire Cougars immediately above them have done only slightly better, picking up one draw in three outings.
Cougars' home match with Hotels at Devonshire Rec. has been put back to Monday night, giving construction crews an additional day to complete their work on the eastern wall at the ground. The BFA made the switch yesterday as there was still construction equipment on the premises.
Hotels have moved into a mid-table position following two straight wins and they will be looking for win number three against a Cougars side that has already had two of their matches postponed and rescheduled because of unavailability of grounds. Their last game was back October 12.
Dandy Town have lost twice in the last week, in the league and Martonmere Cup semi-finals, so they will be desperate for victory to move away from the bottom when they take on Somerset Trojans at St. John's Field.
PHC, too, have some early problems, compounded with the resignation of coach Johnny Nusum in midweek after just a couple of months in the job. The Zebras, hit by a mass exodus of players in the summer, are at home to North Village tomorrow.
Three Second Division matches are also scheduled for tomorrow. Leaders Wolves are away to Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field while St. David and Hamilton Parish, two of the other promotion favourites, clash at St. David's. Both Paget and St. George's will be seeking their first win of the season when they meet in the opening match at White Hill.
