Seas unfriendly to Island sailors
regatta today after which it's unlikely they'll be bidding the waters of Wassaw Sound a fond farewell.
Another two 11th place finishes over the weekend have left the Bermudians in 14th overall in a fleet of 25. And while, at this level, there's nothing shabby about that, Bromby and White had hoped, and expected, much better.
They, however, haven't been the only team to struggle in the fickle conditions off Savannah, where races have been postponed in early afternoon because of too little breeze and called off late afternoon the same day because of winds gusting over 30 knots.
Defending Olympic champions Mark Reynolds and Hal Haenel of the US are also out of medal contention in ninth place after finishing 21st, 15th, 22nd and 18th in their last four races.
In light air on Saturday, which ultimately caused postponement of the second race, Bromby and White placed 11th in race eight and duplicated that effort in yesterday's race.
Race ten yesterday was postponed because of lack of wind.
Currently leading the fleet are Brazil's Torben Grael and Marcelo Ferreira with just one point less than Australians Colin Beashel and David Giles (22 to 23).
Also sailing today will be Malcolm Smith in the Lasers and Paula Lewin in the Europe dinghies in races nine and ten. They then complete their respective events with a final race on Wednesday. Smith currently lies 42nd in the 56-boat fleet and Lewin 13th in an entry of 28. Both had the weekend off.
Meanwhile, over the weekend Bermuda equestrienne Suzie Dunkley Zandvoort, on her 11-year-old gelding Elliot, competed at the Georgia International Horse Park in the team dressage. Dunkley was permitted to join the field of 50, compiling a score of 60.08 to place 36th in the individual standings. Her main events will take place on Wednesday and Saturday, the individual Grand Prix and individual freestyle.
