O'Brien six-pack boosts Islanders
Bailey's Bay 80 St. David's cricket future appears to be in good hands as their youngsters continued the club's dominance in the Junior Eastern Counties Cup by winning Saturday's final at Lord's against Bailey's Bay by 41 runs.
Spearheading the defending champions to victory was George O'Brien Jr. whose haul of six wickets for 25 runs off 12 overs, including five maidens, landed him man-of-the-match honours. He also chipped in with 10 runs.
While O'Brien's sterling performance with the ball was unmatched, team-mate Lorrin Marshall did well to grab the other three wickets for 16 runs off 10 overs. The remaining wicket was a run out.
The third bowler used, Delyone Borden, although unable to land a wicket, also finished with impressive figures, allowing just 19 runs off his 10 overs which included four maidens.
In their chase for a winning total of 122, Bay had no answer to the St.
David's bowlers who required just 32 overs to take their team to victory.
Bay had just two players in double figures with Chris Smith high man on 20 and D.Simmons following with 16 not out.
Borden helped the champions to their total by slamming 45, including six fours. Lorrin Marshall followed with a brisk 38 while O'Brien was the only other player in double figures.
Cal Brown was the most successful of the Bay bowlers with four for 26 off nine overs, two of which were maidens, while Roger Trott claimed three for 29 off 9.3 overs. Chris Smith had two for 13 off seven overs.
