the Island this summer, if plans for a crop of English-style tea-rooms go ahead.

One of the establishments is due to start brewing up by June at the foot of Gibbs Hill lighthouse.

Others are believed to be planned by the Cottage Bakery and the National Trust.

The Gibbs Hill shop, in a former apartment above the lighthouse gift store, has just got approval from the development applications board.

Mr. Michael Burke, his father Mr. Kevin Burke and their partner Mr. Terry Pryse have won a Government tender to use the premises.

They hope to offer traditional English delicacies like cream teas, crumpets and teacakes, said Mr. Burke.
