ITN news dropped
available on the Island because of a big price increase.
General manager Mr. Malcolm Fletcher said one of the few other overseas satellite subscribers to ITN World News pulled out, causing a big price increase for everybody else.
"The additional costs were too high for us to bear,'' he said. "It's regrettable. It did have a following and we were quite pleased with the results.
"There is such a lot of American news that it was nice to give it a British slant. But unfortunately in the West there aren't that many British communities that would want that service.
" ... We'd like to continue with it, and if the opportunity comes up again, we will.'' Bermuda Broadcasting dropped ITN World News once before, about five years ago.
On that occasion, prices jumped when the programme's feed to Japan was taken off the satellite that served Bermuda and the Americas.
the programme ran daily at 6:35 p.m. on channel 7. It has been replaced with the show The Wonder Years. "It's a popular show, and would appeal to a younger group,'' Mr. Fletcher said.
