will be granted a licence to operate alongside Bermuda Cablevision.

A hearing before the Telecommunications Commission to see if it should recommend to Technology Minister John Barritt that Coral Cable Vision Network Ltd. be granted a licence concluded yesterday.

Any further submissions will have to be sent to the Commission in writing during the next two weeks.

Bermuda Cablevision lawyer Alan Dunch opposed approval after noting that he had been "prevented from putting forward a proper objection''.

This was because he had been unable to see Coral Cable's full application for some 30 channels. This had "thwarted our efforts'', said Mr. Dunch.

The lawyer noted that the Commission had not seen programming contracts from Coral Cable.

All that was known was that they planned to operate tiers of channels -- some of which were already carried by his client, he added.

He added that Bermuda Cablevision doubted whether there were any actual agreements with these channels in place and added that his clients believed it may end up operating like Hardell Entertainment.

Mr. Dunch said Hardell -- which has been granted a provisional license already -- had done nothing with it except approach Bermuda Cablevision offering to sell it to them for $10 million.

But David Kessaram, representing Coral Cable, denied these claims. He said the company had some contracts ready to be signed with channel operators and had letters of intent from others pending approval of the licence.

Coral Cable had not been refused by any of the channels it had approached, he added, stressing that the firm was submitting a "bona fide application''.

Coral Cable is a US-Bermudian-owned firm headed by local architect Stephen West with a minority US interest.

The company is applying to operate a wireless cable television system which would use Cable & Wireless equpment.
