in the inaugural two-day `Ryder Cup' match at Port Royal yesterday.

But the pros didn't have everything their own.

Entering the second day with a five point lead after Wednesday's foursome and two-ball matches, they eventually won the match 151 to 81 , taking yesterday's 12 singles matches seven to five.

Among those who claimed notable scalps were Henry Ascento who defeated veteran pro Eardley Jones seven and six, Stephen Lambert who beat home course pro Frankie Rabain two and one, and Nick Mansell who downed D.Johnson six and five.

Other amateur winners in the singles were Tim Carr who defeated Mid Ocean's Steven DeCosta three and two, and Eldon Raynor who got past Herbie Minors six and five.

On the first day of the Island Construction-sponsored event on Wednesday, the pros won four of the six matches in the foursomes and then had three more wins in the afternoon two-ball to take an 81 -31 lead.

Many fans holding $40 tickets failed to show at Coral Beach after the singles and doubles finals, scheduled to start at 2.00 p.m., were delayed six hours after the centre court clay was drenched by two downpours.

Organisers tried to inform spectators who had gone home of the rescheduled 8.00 p.m. start, via radio and television.

Tournament director Alec Anderson said: "Although our legal position with tickets is no rain refunds and even though the tennis did take place, people who did not use their tickets on Sunday can use them to watch a session of next year's tournament, assuming there is one.''
