fined nearly $2,000 in Magistrates' Court for importing drugs.

Robert Rigano, 34, admitted possession of 8.79 grammes of cannabis, cigarette papers and 10.5 grammes of Valium-like diazepam tablets.

The drugs were found during a Customs search after he arrived at the airport last Sunday.

Prosecutor Sgt. Rex Osborne said the cannabis was found in Rigano's sock and the tablets and papers in his trouser pocket.

Rigano told the Court the drugs had been given to him by a friend before he and his new wife left.

His wife Laura Jean, also 34, pleaded guilty to possession of 2.31 grammes of cocaine, which Sgt. Osborne said was found in a plastic bag secreted in her body.

"It's shame to ruin your honeymoon this way, but I'm going to have to ruin it a little bit more,'' Acting Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons told the couple.

She fined them $400 for the cannabis, $300 for the papers, $600 for the diazepam and $600 for the cocaine.
