W. Counties vote in Outerbridge
Outerbridge has been named president of the Western Counties Cricket Association.
At the annual general meeting on Wednesday evening he replaced Ed Bailey, who decided not to contest the position he had held for several years.
Outerbridge defeated Southampton Rangers' Wayne Raynor in a two-horse race for president.
Until two weeks ago, in addition to being president of the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control, Bailey was also head of Willow Cuts and Western Counties.
However, he decided not to contest either position.
Willow Cuts will have a heavy presence on the Western Counties executive committee with Vivian Simons elected as vice president and Vance Gilbert, who took over the Cuts presidency from Bailey, as treasurer. Raynor, president of Southampton Rangers, is the new secretary while Bridge's Marcia Parks becomes assistant secretary.
The Western Counties representative on the BCBC this term will be John Tucker, the former Southampton Rangers and Somerset Cup Match player.
Both Bailey and another long-serving member, Ed Simons of Bridge, were bestowed with honorary life titles. Bailey becomes an honorary president of the Western Counties and Simons an honorary vice-president.
Raynor said that one of the association's priorities this year was to revive the junior competition.
"Already the president has indicated that this will be one of our main focuses. We will be looking to the communities in the areas of our affiliates to support us in this endeavour,'' said Raynor.
The county dates for 1995 are as follows: July 8, champions Willow Cuts v Warwick; August 12, winners v Southampton Rangers; August 26, winners v Somerset Bridge.
