experience mixed fortunes over the weekend in the IBEX Trophy match.

On the plus side, Gibbons stroked 43 runs, but that wasn't enough to guide his team, Wycombe CC, to victory as they suffered a comprehensive seven wicket loss to Witchmore CC. Scores: Wycombe 208 (48 overs); Witchmore 210-3 (41 overs).

Witchmore, representing the Surrey League, fielded overseas player James Bevan, brother of Australian Test batsman Michael. Wycombe were representing the Middlesex League.

Making his second appearance at Lord's, Gibbons said early morning showers had assisted the Witchmore bowlers. However, a change in conditions in the afternoon saw his bowlers toil under the sun.

"It was just one of those things. Their bowlers made good use of the conditions that existed at the time while we were forced to work much harder for success when things changed later in the he day,'' said Gibbons. "But it was a thrilling experience for us to play at Lord's. It's one of the best grounds that I have ever seen and played on. Everyone who played was excited.'' Gibbons was among the bowlers who struggled, taking just one for 58 off 10 overs which included a maiden.

Earlier this season he played an important role in helping Wycombe win the league title, scoring 563 runs and taking 38 wickets while playing 17 of their 21 matches.

Gibbons only recently returned to England after a five-day coaching trip to South Africa.
