Breaking news: Bermuda fall short against Ireland
Ireland 236; Bermuda 167
Skipper Rodney Trott produced a fine all round performance but Bermuda still came up 69 runs short in their 13th place semi -final against Ireland at the Under 19 World Cup in Malaysia today.
Trott helped himself to a second half-century in the tournament before claiming four for 37 with his off-break spin in a losing cause.
The promising all rounder hit six fours in his top knock of 53 that arrived off 73 deliveries after earlier inflicting the heaviest damage with the ball.
Trott shared in Bermuda's highest stand, 65 runs for the fourth -wicket with a belligerent Malachi Jones, after the Islanders had slid to 57 for three.
Jones narrowly missed out on a second half-century when he fell for 49 after facing 40 deliveries, thumping six fours and two sixes to keep Bermuda's hopes alive before offering a return catch to Ireland skipper and leg break spinner Greg Thompson.
Trott and Jones were removed in the space of seven deliveries and their dismissals ignited a lower order collapse as Bermuda's last five wickets tumbled for the addition of 28 runs.
Thompson led the Irish bowling with outstanding figures of five for 27.
Earlier, Paul Sterling (59) and James Hall (75) shared in a 137 run third-wicket partnership that put the match beyond Bermuda's reach.
