during the Senate's recess.

Particular praise was given to taxi driver Mr. Henry Alexander (Hot Dog) Douglas and teacher Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth Stowe.

Mr. Douglas, 73, of Hamilton Parish died at the end of last month.

Government and Opposition senators joined in their praise of "an ambassador for Bermuda'' famed for his tours with visitors.

Mrs. Stowe, 82, also of Hamilton Parish, died earlier this month. Sen. Wendell Hollis (UBP) described her as "one of the founding teachers'' of Francis Patton School.

Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) is a former pupil of Mrs. Stowe. He said: "She had a tremendous impact on my life and the lives of many young people in Bermuda.'' Sen. Ira Philip (PLP) had praise for Mr. L.W. Jean-Jacques, who died aged 92.

Mr. Jean-Jacques will be remembered for his involvement with the Bermuda Commercial College for more than 60 years.

Sen. Philip also passed on condolences to the family of Father Raphael Outerbridge who established the St. Mark's Egyptian Coptic Church in the Island. He died last week aged 54.

Condolences were also sent to the family of Mr. James Wooleston (Joe) Browne Jr. who died last month, aged 65. A carpenter, Mr. Browne lived in Pembroke.

His sister is former Opposition Leader Mrs. Lois Browne-Evans MP.

Sen. Woolridge asked that similar letters be sent to families of Mr. John Matthew (Johnny) Brangman, artist Mrs. Emily Trott, and Mrs. Dorothy Wesley Burgess Steede.

Former prison officer and taxi driver Mr. Sinclair Chesterfield (Sonny) Hill, of Sandys, who died aged 62, was praised by the senator.

Opposition Senate Leader Sen. Alex Scott asked for condolences to go to the family of Mr. Albert Van Lowe Snr., a former sexton of Christ Church, Warwick and scout leader. Mr. Van Lowe died in April.
