BF&M drives BSX

BF&M Ltd. were the main drivers for a frantic day's trading on the Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX) yesterday.

The insurance company saw its share price soar 95 cents (5.1 percent) to close up at $19.50, with 9,500 shares traded.

Following suit was Butterfield Bank, whose share value climbed five cents (0.3 percent) to finish on $18.90. A total of 2,000 shares changed hands throughout the day on that transaction.

But, on the flipside, BELCO Holdings Ltd. dropped 90 cents (4.3 percent), Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. lost 50 cents (3.4 percent) and Bermuda Container Line Ltd. fell 40 cents (2.7 percent).

Their share values ended on $20.10, $14 and $14.60 respectively.

Overall, the Index closed just up 0.65 points (0.01 percent) at 4,969.53, as 18,206 shares worth $322,922.50 were traded.

The BSX Insurance Index, however, finished down 1.71 percent at 1,176.05.
