Insurance sector thrives
Insurance proved to be the sector in demand as BF&M Ltd. and Argus Group Holdings Ltd. made the biggest gains of last week on The Royal Gazette/Bermuda Stock Exchange Index (BSX).
BF&M boosted its share price by 95 cents (5.12 percent) and Argus by 50 cents (3.28 percent) to close up at $19.50 and $15.75 respectively.
Total shares traded were 13,074 and 11,531 respectively for BF&M and Argus.
Bermuda Commercial Bank Ltd. also saw its share value rise 50 cents (4.17 percent) to finish on $12.50, as 1,000 shares changed hands.
The biggest losers, however, were Belco Holdings Ltd. (90 cents or 4.29 percent), Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd. (50 cents or 3.45 percent) and Bermuda Container Line Ltd. (40 cents or 2.67 percent).
Butterfield Bank also lost 10 cents (0.53 percent) to close at $18.75, with 16,528 shares traded.
Overall, the Index was down 0.433 (0.01 percent) at 4,968.45. A total of 48,954 shares worth $858,961.75 changed hands.
The BSX Insurance Index also stumbled down 1.71 percent to finish on 1,176.05.
