Cougars aim to keep pressure on leaders PHC
Devonshire Cougars will look to put pressure on league leaders PHC when they tackle Boulevard Blazers at Devonshire Rec. tonight.
Cougars, who are still in with a shot at the title, will be sharpening their claws knowing victory over their near rivals will draw them two points closer to the Premier Division's summit.
The previous encounter between the sides ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw that saw Boulevard twice take the lead.
But with three games left and a fixture against PHC on the cards at the climax of the season, Cougars marksman Raymond Beach knows a win is vital.
"Of course we want to win the league, but right now we have only ourselves to blame," said Beach. "Going into this match we are looking for three points and to apply pressure on Zebras."
With the devastating defeat to PHC in the Friendship semi-final still on their minds, Beach knows they must strive to overcome the five point deficit they face.
"Everyone was upset, not at the game, but with how the season is going. We deserve the results we are getting at the moment", Beach continued. "In the end we only have ourselves to blame for not getting the job done.
"But we are still in the race and this is what we play for."
"The times we have played them (Zebras), it is always a mistake that settles matters. The season opener saw our keeper let in a sloppy goal, and there was another letdown earlier this week. It is the story of our season.
"We have the skill and mental toughness to deal with what we have in front of us.
"In front of us right now is Boulevard and I can only see one outcome - the home team taking maximum points."
Boulevard have been unpredictable this season, but with top-flight football guaranteed next term after last weekend's win over Dandy Town they can cast their thoughts to FA Cup football. Blazers play St. George's in a reply next week.
Before the Premier League fixture, at 9 p.m, is a First Division match between Young Men's Social Club and Wolves at 7p.m.
