Cable & Wireless half-year revenue hits $1.2 billion

Cable & Wireless International increased its revenue seven percent to $1.211 billion, representing its third consecutive six-month period of growth.

The full service telecoms provider, which has operations in Bermuda, saw growth in its mobile and broadband sectors outstrip declines in fixed line voice services, with mobile revenue rising 20 percent to $436 million and broadband revenue up 33 percent to $88 million.

Richard Dodd, chief executive of the Monaco & Islands division, said: "We have extended our cable network laying a cable into Bermuda from the USA, as part of a two-year $22 million investment programme.

"Once commissioned, the cable will further enhance the telecoms services we provide Bermuda's business community."
