Perrozi: 'I'll battle on'

BERMUDA boxer Teresa Perrozi believes she has put her legal woes behind her as she seeks to get back into the ring in the New Year - if she can get the right fight.

Perrozi had been battling threats by Seconds To Go Boxing president George Cuozzo that he will not release her from a three-year contract and will demand a fee from all of her fights for the next three years.

But she told The Mid-Ocean News a lawyer in Boston, who was the friend of an uncle, had taken up her cause.

"George tried to contact me but I just turned him on to the lawyer," Perrozi said.

"He doesn't have any grounds to stand on. I am not at all concerned if I fight. I terminated the agreement, he chose not to accept it."

She blamed Cuozzo for preparing her badly for the seven-belt defeat by Natascha Ragosina earlier this year in Germany, but she realises an opportunity for revenge in the ring won't happen anytime soon.

She said: "I would love a rematch in Germany with my original trainer but nobody has got back to me. And of course I would love my hair to stay in place. I clearly won the first two rounds but it all went downhill when the hair came out, although I don't want to say that is the only absolute reason."

But she said even matchmaker Diana Rodriguez had no luck in trying to get a fight set up.

"They never got back to her either. They are just avoiding it.

"She didn't get good coverage from it, a lot of the women's boxing critics said step up and fight someone your own weight. It was almost expected that she would beat me.

"There is a lot of people she has avoided ? so until she has fought them. She keeps fighting people in the 154-160 category, that move up to fight her because they are doing it for the money. So beating me doesn't really help her record much."

Perozzi is still keeping fit with racing and boxing training and has had some offers of bouts.

In September she was offered a light heavy weight contest in Nairobi, Africa.

I didn't think it was a smart fight," said Perozzi who is a middle weight.

And Perozzi was also offered a six-round $2,000 match up in New York which she rejected.

"I am still interested in fighting. I just haven't had any worthwhile offer. I haven't really pursued any either. Usually I really have to make it known to promoters."

In the meantime she is hoping to get on the next fight night card at Berkeley.

"Definitely the next thing I want to do is here. Overseas is too big of a commitment. I don't have the time any more.

"I do miss it though. I will see what happens."
