Breaking News: Bill Black removed from Corporation
Alderman William Black has been removed from the Corporation of Hamilton for not being properly registered on the city’s voters’ list.
The Corporation revealed in a statement today that the former Deputy Mayor was found to have "defects in his position as a nominee" under the Municipalities Act 1923 and therefore “ceased to hold office”.
Earlier this year, Mr. Black made a complaint about two other members for not being properly registered leading to an investigation into the eligibility of common councillor Graeme Outerbridge and alderman David Dunkley.
Mr. Outerbridge resigned his post in May in order to re-register on the voters’ list while Mr. Dunkley was found to be ineligible but is appealing the decision.
Former policeman Mr. Black was deposed as Deputy Mayor in March, claiming at the time that his colleagues were “just out to hang me”.
His departure from the Corporation leaves four vacancies to be filled by an extraordinary election on July 21.
