The team has regrouped in 2004, after their worst season in living memory last year.

Sunday?s early morning 4-0 win over Panthers was a key one for the squad.

The pace was fast and the ball speed high for the first 20 minutes of the match. Both teams tried to impose themselves on the game by playing to their own particular strengths.

Panthers playmaker Matt Spencer found himself thwarted by Chameleon David Wilde who tracked back, stuck to him, closed down and tackled Spencer more times in this match than he has been tackled since he arrived on the Island last year.

Wilde also was inspirational with his offensive game and, in combination with Mark Finnigan, caused a world of problems for the young Panthers squad.

The first goal of the game came midway through the first half after a well-worked short corner routine in which Bill Spencer twice found Peter Illston with time and space to take a pop at goal ? the second time nailing it past the hapless goalkeeper. Chameleons doubled their lead just before the break when a goalmouth scramble found Stevie Moreton first to react and crack the ball in.

Panthers upped the pressure in the second half but Chameleons had the luxury of playing possession hockey and defending strongly when the ball was in their half. Persistence on the Reds part again paid off with another Moreton short corner goal following a well-worked multi-player open play attack.

A quick change of direction of play found Neil Mountain on the far side of the goal.

He took advantage of the pace of the passing to sweep the ball quickly past the out-of-position goalkeeper.

Chameleons keeper Mark Stevens dominated his ?D? and celebrated the birth of his second daughter with his second clean sheet of the season ? on the new Astro turf?s high scoring surface that is no mean feat.

In other men?s play, Upstarts held Rebels to a 4-3 victory.

Upstarts were first on the board, with Alan Gilbertson netting a goal just two minutes into the game but Rebels were quick to respond and Bert Rodney smacked in the equaliser on a penalty corner.

Kirk Edmunds put Upstarts ahead with another open play scoring drive but again Rebels returned when Jamal Burgess successful converted a penalty flick.

Gary Fyfe found the back of the net as the first half was drawing to a close and three minutes later Edmunds added his second to take Upstarts to the break ahead 4-2.

Rebels came back late in the game with renewed vigour as Rodney netted a second goal to bring the game closer, but it was too little and too late for the win.

In the Women?s A play, Swallows brought in the biggest scoreline of the the season to date with a 9-0 drubbing of Cardinals.

Cardinals were playing severely depleted with no goalie in the first half of the match ? Shirley Smith stepped up and and did a great job playing kickback but it was not enough to stop Swallows offensive steamroll.

Cath Griffiths had an exceptional day with six goals while Jenny Burrell stepped up to add in two and Kirstie Kelly netted one.

Swallows B squad also grabbed a 2-0 win over Cardinals.

Ravens A team stayed undefeated with a 4-0 result against Bluebirds while the B squads drew 0-0 against each other.

Swifts and Canaries also battled to a scoreless draw in their A match-up. While Canaries B team defeated Swifts 3-1.

As the league breaks for Christmas, Ravens and Swallows are tied at the top of the A table with nine points each.

A B league surprise has the Police Orioles on the top rung with ten points but they have played one game more than rival Swallows who are just one point behind.
