Wayne makes his mark
Wayne Scott's tremendous US domestic season on the bike has ended with him being proclaimed as one of the nation's top riders.
Scott, who will finish the year by representing Bermuda at this weekend's Caribbean Cycling Championships in Curacao, is currently the number one category two criterium rider in the US.
Scott, who lives in Florida, amassed 661 points, ahead of Georgia's Christopher Guidry (672) and fellow Floridian Patrick Diver (675).
The Islander's last race in the US was at the weekend at the Florida Cyclefest.
"It was the hardest race I have been in all year," he said. "About two-thirds of the field were pros and they were all getting the most of the $19,000 total prize money."
Scott was in fifth place in the state rankings going into the race and his gameplan reflected his desire to stay there.
"I was riding mostly defensive to keep my place in the Pro 1/2 rankings," he said. "I didn't score any points but I managed to keep my closest rivals in check and they didn't get any points either."
Scott will join up with fellow national team riders Kris Hedges, Geri Mewett, Kent Richardson and Karl Outerbridge this weekend for the Caribbean Championships. Melanie Claude and Julia Hawley will spearhead the women's challenge.
