Village look to bounce back after Charity loss
North Village, PHC Zebras and Somerset Trojans will all be looking for improved results tonight when the 2006-07 Martonmere Cup competition officially kicks off with a double-header at BAA Field.
Village's four-year grip on the Charity Cup came to an end at BAA Field on Saturday night as a new-look Dandy Town struck twice late in the match to come away with a 3-2 victory.
Less than 24 hours later, Kyle Lightbourne's first match at the helm of Zebras also ended in disaster at White Hill Field when Premier Division newcomers Paget Lions came from behind to pip their nearby rivals 3-2.
And at the opposite end of the Island, St.David's, last season's other promoted team, managed to steal a point off highly fancied Somerset Trojans ? one of the teams expected to challenge for all major honours this season.
Village, however, will be heavily favoured over Lightbourne's Zebras in tonight's Group A curtain raiser, while last season's Martonmere finalists, Trojans, will have their work cut out for them against 2001-02 champions Devonshire Cougars in the Group B nightcap.
