Reid?s near-perfect night
Carl Reid almost made history Tuesday evening ? coming achingly close to bowling the first perfect game in the 27-year history of the American Airlines Bowling Spectacular.
In his opening game, Reid bowled a blistering 290 scratch (actual) game. A perfect game consists of a total of twelve consecutive strikes.
Reid?s 290 was instrumental in his winning the top prize for high series. His second and third games were 216 and 177 respectively, giving him a 683 series. He was followed by Delmont Tucker on 652 and Wayne Kelly on 645. Maurice Caines won the second game with 247 and Kelly the third with 236.
Given his extremely high scratch series, Reid added his handicap allowance and topped the scale with a 761 series to claim the top prize in this division also. He was followed by Delmont Tucker on 721, Wayne Kelly 714, Anthony Hayward 710, Colbert Pearman 694, Russell Harvey 693, Walter Wilson 686, Stephen Paul 681 and Henry Hughes 680.
