Leverock left stumped over transfer
Top spinner Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock is on a sticky wicket even before the first ball of the new cricket season is bowled.
Just weeks after learning that his transfer from Western Stars to Southampton Rangers had fallen through, Leverock has no idea who he will represent this season.
His troubles started early last month when Rangers failed to play the $100 transfer fee to acquire his services prior to the March 31 deadline ? that caused Bermuda Cricket Board to disallow his intended move.
The bowler had no choice but to return to Stars but there has reportedly been some resistance from his former team-mates.
While both the player and the club were unwilling to discuss the problem in detail this week, sources suggested the two parties were having great difficulty in reaching a resolution.
Leverock, who has reported to have attended few training sessions at the St. John?s ground since being denied his transfer, appeared to be baffled, embarrassed and concerned about the stalemate.
Asked to comment on his status with Stars, he said: ?That?s kind of up in the air right now, I really can?t say anything until I hear from the people at Western Stars.?
Arnold Manders, long-serving player and now full-time coach of Stars, admitted that discussions this week with the BCB and Southampton Rangers hadn?t really helped to clear up the transfer discrepancy.
?It?s a problem that needs to be sorted out with him and the team, I guess you can say. When it is sorted out he will probably play, but that?s only if the transfer doesn?t go through,? said Manders.
The transfer has already been ruled null and void by the BCB, and it remains to be seen if they are willing to review the matter.
Stars, meanwhile, picked up Police regulars Dennis Archer and Roshan Perera to bolster their bid for another league title.
