Lightbourne on target on return from injury
Kyle Lightbourne's bid to get back into the action received a major boost last night when the striker scored on his return from injury.
The Bermudian forward, who plays for Macclesfield Town of the English Third Division, has been struggling with a niggling ankle injury. He thought he had seen the last of it a couple of weeks ago when he came off the bench during the second-half of his side's game with Shrewsbury. But he barely lasted 40 minutes having to be substituted himself before the end after the injury flared up again.
Last night he turned out for the table topping reserves and scored the first of the side's three goals against Mansfield Town's second string.
Lightbourne made and scored the opener after collecting a throw in. He skilfully flicked the ball over a defender before turning and firing into the net.
Andy McAvoy and Richard Eyre completed the scoring. The win opened up some daylight between Macclesfield and second placed Kidderminster, who did not play yesterday. The Silkmen are now five points clear at the top of the reserve table.
Lightbourne could now feature in the squad for Saturday's league game against Rochdale.
The striker has played just four times for the Silkmen since damaging his ankle at Bristol Rovers in October and manager David Moss has still to see the best of the former Stoke and Walsall man.
Moss said: "I've not seen much of Kyle since he's been here, but I know what he can do.
"I've seen him play for Walsall and Stoke over the years, and he's got a lot to offer."
Meanwhile, John Barry Nusum has been given two weeks to prove himself worthy of becoming a Rangers player.
The Bermudian, who has had an outstanding season for Furman College in the United States, has flown over to Scotland for a trial with the Premier League giants.
A Rangers spokeswoman said yesterday Nusum, who met with club officials on Monday, has joined up with John McGregor's Under-21s.
The striker was joined by Daniele Fortunato at the Ibrox club, but whereas the 18-year-old Italian has already been handed a three-year deal, Nusum has 14 days to land one of his own.
