Public or private ferry?
March 27, 2002
Dear Sir,
I need clarification on something that is bothering me. Perhaps I have it wrong. Feel free to correct me if so. But, I would like to know why Progressive Labour Party felt the need to have a private christening ceremony for the Serenity boat. Isn't this the boat that the taxpayers have paid for?
We have been told that we can board the boat for free on Saturday and Sunday. Why must we wait? Apparently, the PLP politicians have paid for this boat out-of-pocket and the taxpayers are the ones getting a free ride!
Is it just me, or is this another one of PLP's ploys to get themselves demoted to Opposition next November? I really don't think that they are aware of the damage they have caused by having this attitude of "Let's spend it all while we can". We have put you in and we can take you out. They displayed the same attitude with their oversized, illegal Peugeots brought in.
I strongly disagree with a private ceremony for this boat that we really did not need to spend so much money on. But, that is another story. The fact of the matter is that if you cannot party with us, you cannot party at all. Supposedly, a party for the people deems it acceptable to have personal extravaganzas at our expense. I also suppose that they are having caviar and champagne flown in for this private ceremony. Yet, the people will be invited to snack on tuna, cheese, chopped egg sandwiches and soft drinks on Saturday and Sunday. Can I get a witness, or is it just me?
Majority rules, fellow Bermudians and I sincerely hope that you remember that when the election comes around. We need to stand up and speak out, not just towards this party, but the United Bermuda Party as well, who no doubt will win the next election. Do not let them off the hook, either. We are too submissive and we need to start standing up for one another. I just hope that by the next election, we have decided what we are going to do and how we are going to do it. Let's think about each other and get the job done!
