CedarBridge PTSA chief steps down
The chairman of CedarBridge Academy's Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) has resigned after only three months at the helm.
Robin Richardson told last night that differences in opinion among members of the executive led to his shock decision last week.
Last night, members of the general membership were informed.
"I do not wish to go into great detail about why I made the decision to stand down, but it was basically down to differences in opinion, and I did not think we were all on the same page," said Mr. Richardson.
"I had a real passion for the job, and I'm very sad that it has come to this, but I felt that I did not have the full support from some of the executives on some of the issues.
"I feel very strongly about my beliefs, and I think it's important for the PTSA to remain impartial. That is what I wanted. I want the team to work well, but I felt by me staying, it would have been a hindrance."
Mr. Richardson said the entire executive, which includes principal Kalmar Richards, had refused to accept his resignation, but he had refused to rescind it.
However, he said he hoped to remain on the executive as a parent representative. A new chairman has not yet been elected.
He added: "I felt very strongly about the differences in opinion, so I did not rescind, but I am very sad. I was happy to do the job for my child, and for every other child at CedarBridge Academy. It was for them that I was there.
"I never do anything half-hearted, and I very much appreciated being on the executive as the chairman.
"It was with great regret that I felt I had to stand down, but, at the end of the day, all I want is for the executive of the PTSA to run smoothly and to be solid."
When Mr. Richardson was elected in September, among his objectives was getting more parents involved in the school and their children's education, and encouraging youngsters to worker harder and achieve more. He said he wanted children to enjoy being at school.
