Inspiring Big Sister honoured for her community work
An ?inspiring? volunteer who has made a positive impact in the lives of countless Bermudian children through the Big Brothers and Sisters (BBBS) Organisation was honoured yesterday morning.
After years of service to the community, Rosette Richardson has been recognised by CableVision and has become the latest recipient of their quarterly Community Service Award.
Ms Richardson joined the BBBS board in 1999 and served as President from 2002 to 2006, at which time she played an instrumental role in the scholarship and events committee in addition to many other facets of the organisation.
According to Ms Richardson, the most rewarding part of her job is when she is approached and greeted by children in public and she can see positive differences that she is making in that child?s life.
?At Big Brothers and Big Sisters, we are committed to helping children learn values, responsibility and what it means to have fun in life,? she said.
?This award today is an important validation of the work that we do, and for that I am grateful.?
Assistant general manager of Bermuda CableVision Alan Smith presented Ms Richardson with the award as well as a cheque donating $1,000 to BBBS.
Also in attendance for the awards ceremony was Community Affairs Minister, Dale Butler, who said: ?Rosette Richardson?s charitable spirit is inspiring. By helping to improve the lives of Bermuda?s young people through positive mentoring and leadership, she and other volunteers with Big Brothers and Big Sisters are impacting the lives of the ?littlest? members of the organisation in a significant and meaningful way.
?I am honoured to be here today as Ms Richardson receives a Community Service Award.?
