Anti-war protester tries to stir public?s conscience

A Bermudian who has long protested the American-led war in Iraq demonstrated again on Monday, this time against the potential for US military action against Iran.

Jonathan Starling wants other citizens who believe American leaders are gearing up for a fight with Iran to join his effort.

His Monday morning protest was held outside the US Consulate Office in Devonshire.

In a press statement Mr. Starling said: "A US sponsored and manipulated propaganda campaign has begun with the intention of demonising Iran, its President, and alluding to Iranian WMDs, a campaign which is extremely similar to the one conducted prior to the Iraq war."

The statement says the war in Iraq was unlawful and a 'pre-emptive' strike on Iran would be similarly illegal.

In an effort to inspire more protestors, Mr. Starling said: "Even Bermuda, although still a British colony in name, though not directly involved in this illegal and imperialist war, has blood on its hands through its indirect facilitation of the US-UK war machine and the aiding of war profiteers.

"It is the duty of all citizens and workers to refuse to assist in the continuation of this criminal war."

Mr. Starling has outlined five ways he believes people in Bermuda can voiced their displeasure with US foreign policy, the first of which, is joining him every Monday for a protest outside the Consulate Office.
