Film festival selects jury panel
The jurors have been chosen for the 2002 Bermuda International Film Festival (BIFF).
Film critic Rex Reed and actress Martha Plimpton will join winning directors from last year's BIFF - Jagmohan Mundhra ('Sandstorm') and Monteith McCollum ('Hybrid'). Freelance videographer and writer Peter Backenberg will also be on the panel of judges.
Martha Plimpton will be recognised for her role as Steve Martin's daughter in 'Parenthood'. But she has been working since she was ten-years-old. Aside from her roles in 'Parenthood', 'Mosquito Coast', 'Stanley and Iris', 'I Shot Andy Warhol', 'I'm Not Rappoport' and 'The Sleepy Time Gal', Ms Plimpton has also featured in a series of Calvin Klein commercials.
She is a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company Ensemble and in 1998 received a national Medal of the Arts award. She donates much of her time to the 52nd Street Project, a non-profit organisation which matches inner-city children with professionals to create original theatre by writing, directing and performing their own plays.
Rex Reed is a critic columnist, author and lecturer whose films reviews appear weekly in the New York Observer. He was the New York Post's film critic for five years and has also been film critic for Vogue, GQ, Holiday and Women's Wear Daily.
He is the author of eight books about the movies while his first novel, 'Personal Effects', sold 75,000 copies in its first printing and was optioned by NBC for a four-hour mini series.
For five years he appeared in the television show, 'At the Movies'. He has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and has juried at the Montreal, Venice and Berlin film festivals.
The jury will select award winners in the categories of best narrative feature, best documentary and Bermuda shorts (best short). Audiences will vote for the Audience Choice Award.
This year's Bermuda Film Festival will be the largest to date with a total of 50 entries being screened.
