UK scouts to run rule over local players

Bermuda’s top young players will have a chance to impress scouts from English football during a four-day trial at the National Sports Centre in July.

Players aged between 10 and 25 have been invited to the tryouts, which have been organised by Bermuda Footy Promotions and UK Football Trials, a company with more than 33,000 players on their books from 208 countries.

Harry Price, the founder and director of UK Football Trials, said that the trials, to be staged between July 8 and 11, could be life changing for any Bermuda player who impresses sufficiently.

“We are bringing our most experienced team of coaches, our agent and a [Barclays] Premier League scout to work with the players at the tryout,” Price said. “These are some of the world’s best Uefa qualified coaches who will deliver the same opportunity and tryout programme that we run in the UK.

“We are offering players a genuine opportunity to be scouted from Premier League level all the way through to semi-professional.

“It is worth players understanding that players must have an EU passport to play in the UK, and all the players we send to clubs for further tryouts will have to pay their own way to attend.”

Price revealed that two Bermudian players had already benefited from having tryouts with UK Football Trials.

“We have had two players from Bermuda that have attended our tryouts in the UK and both players were offered pro club trials at a [Sky Bet] Championship club and one signed for their academy at 15 years old,” he said.

“The other was unable to attend his pro club opportunity due to the distance he was from the club, but it just shows that the talent in Bermuda is excellent and we hope to identify more players that could make it in the UK.”

Vinzie Zuill, the president of Footy Promotions, said that UK Football Trials were offering an “incredible” opportunity for the Island’s top young players.

“We are pleased to partner with UK Football trials to provide this great opportunity for local players to showcase their skills,” Zuill said.

“Now established as the world’s leading football tryout company, it has placed more players into and semi pro clubs in the UK than anyone else in the world. Their professional tryout system is now being assessed as one of the most successful professional player recruitment systems in the world.”
