Willie Clemons hopes to carry his rich vein of scoring form for Swedish club Bodens into the international arena with Bermuda.The attacking midfielder has acquired a penchant for hitting the net after scoring five goals in his last six games in the Swedish First Division.“It felt good to contribute to ending the season on a strong note [for Bodens]” Clemons said.“I’m really happy to be doing well in front of goal, everyone loves to score goals. Hopefully I can carry it into international duty.”Unfortunately Clemons’s scoring spree could not save his team from relegation, despite a 7-0 win over Sylvia in their final game of the season.“We almost got away with the great escape, but in the end it came down to other results, and unfortunately they didn’t go our way,” he added. “Relegation is always tough to swallow but we showed that we belong in this division during the second half of the season. We just got off to a bad start.”The 25-year-old will join up with the Bermuda squad in St Croix, US Virgin Islands, where they will warm up for their final group B game in League A of the Concacaf Nations League against Mexico in Toluca on November 19.Kyle Lightbourne’s team will play a friendly against Major League Soccer side DC United in St Croix on Friday.“DC United should be a good chance to get everyone tuned in and on the same page before Mexico,” Clemons said.“I’m looking forward to meeting up with the lads again. It’s always good times when we get together. It should be a fun international week.”Bermuda lost 5-1 to Mexico in the Nations League at the National Stadium last month.Lightbourne’s team are bottom of group B on goal difference, four inferior to second-place Panama. The bottom nation will be relegated to League B.“We need to get a result against Mexico,” Clemons added. “It’s very difficult, especially away from home with the altitude and conditions, but not impossible.”Bermuda started their Nations League campaign with a 4-1 defeat to Panama at the National Stadium before avenging that loss by beating the Central Americans 2-0 three days later thanks to a Nahki Wells brace.They secured a top seat at the Nations League table by finishing fifth in the qualifiers, which also led to them reaching the Gold Cup for the first time last summer.
